Dan Holloway was born in Tokyo, Japan in October 9, 1952. His father was an American Serviceman and his mother was native to the country. He has maintained his ethnic tradition and speaks conversational Japanese. He began martial arts training in 1968 under Sensei Norbert Donnelly. He became a sho dan in 1975.
He studied with a friend and dojo mate Sensei Louis Grinnell through 1985. In 1981 he established and still operates Holloway's Isshin-Ryu Karate School.
Dan trained with Sensei Allen Wheeler for a few years and in 1986 he became a student of Sensei Sherman Harrill. In 1986 he joined the Okinawan Karate Do Union and in 1987 the U.I.K.A. Sensei Harrill and he became active in the U.I.K.A. in 1990 and he began his training with Sensei Harold Mitchum.
Sensei Holloway was promoted to Roku Dan by Master Allen Wheeler in 1987. His Shichi Dan promotion was made by Sherman Harrill in 1996, and he was promoted to Hachi Dan by Harold Mitchum in 2005.
Sensei Holloway is an active instructor training in 4 classes, and running 20 miles each week. His philosophy has been simple, to make Isshin- Ryu available, and keep the katas pure so that the student that come after him are afforded the same opportunity that all of Master Shimabuku's students had, to learn the way he taught.

1989 - Presented "Master Shimabuku Award" by the Okinawa Karate Union
1998 - Presented "Master Shimabuku Award" by the Okinawa Karate Union
2000 - Placed 2nd - Chief Instructors Weapons at the Isshin-Ryu Hall of Fame Tournament
2001 - Placed 4th - Chief Instructor Kata at the Isshin-Ryu Hall of Fame Tournament
2002 - Placed 2nd - Chief Instructor Kata at the Isshin-Ryu Hall of Fame Tournament
2003 - Appointed Vice President of the U.I.K.A. by Harold Mitchum
2005 - Placed 1st - Chief Instructor Kata at the Isshin-Ryu Hall of Fame Tournament
2006 - Presented "Instructor of the Year" by the United Isshin-Ryu Karate Association
2006 - Presented "Outstanding Support and Contributions" by the United Isshin-Ryu Karate Association
2007 - Presented "Master Harold Mitchum Lifetime Achievement Award" by the United Isshin-Ryu Karate Association
Sensei Holloway has participated and supported the Hall of Fame every year since 1996. Always available to assist in refereeing and judging when asked. In July 2006 Dan, at his own personal expense, brought Master Tsuyoshi Uechi, Master Angi's senior student, to the states to participate in the U.I.K.A. Symposium.
He and his wife Debbie reside in Waterford, Mi. They have two adult children. His employment: Pres. - Holloway Marketing Systems, Commercial Pilot, Owner Holloway's Dojo. His education: B.S.B.A. Management St. Joseph College MBA -City University, Wa.
