Tim McGhee (Inducted 2015)

Tim McGhee started his training in Isshinryu karate under Master Harold Long.  He was an instructor in the Harold Long School of Karate for 11 years and owner and instructor of Knoxville Isshin-Ryu Karate Club for 4 years.

In 1991, he produced the first Video Series on Isshinryu with Master Harold Long and started Isshin-Ryu Productions, Inc.  He produced the first TV broadcast of Isshinryu Hall of Fame Finals, which aired on Sports South Network in 1992; and in 1993 he co-authored “Who’s Who in Isshinryu” with Master Harold Long.  He was awarded the “Spirit of Isshinryu” in 1992 and awarded the “Male Karate-ka of the Year” in 1995 by the Isshinryu Hall of Fame.  In 1997, he co-authored and published “Isshin-Ryu Karate: The Ultimate Fighting Art” (hardback).

Tim McGhee served as Director and Secretary of the Isshinryu Hall of Fame in 1995 and 1996 and was elected Chairman in 1997.  He served in that capacity until he retired from the Board on its 30th Anniversary in 2010.

During his tenure on the IHOF Board, Tim organized the IHOF Banquet and Tournaments and built the first IHOF website, maintaining it until 2010.  He travelled throughout the United States several times a year to Isshinryu events promoting the IHOF and spent countless hours on the telephone with the leaders of Isshinryu Associations.  His goal was to bring all Isshinryu groups and Associations together one time a year at the IHOF Banquet and Tournament in a friendly, non-political atmosphere.  The year he retired from the IHOF Board, eighteen Associations were in attendance.

Since his retirement from the Isshinryu Hall of Fame, for the past 5 years, Tim has been working out and teaching in Costa Rica.
